Perfect Pairings for your Holiday Table

By Alyssa Moreno

The start of the holiday season is finally here! Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to spend with friends and family while reflecting on all the many reasons to express our thanks! We believe the best way to share gratitude with loved ones is by celebrating with delicious food and Texas High Plains wine!

As you spend time preparing your Thanksgiving turkey, you want to impress your guests with a delicious side dish and the perfect wine pairing. One of our favorite side dishes is roasted potatoes and rosemary. The perfect match for turkey and roasted potatoes is our Burklee Hill Vineyards 2017 Burnett. It is a Super Tuscan wine blend, meaning it is a Sangiovese-based wine with the Bordelais varieties of Cabernet Franc and Merlot added for depth. It presents bright flavors of fresh cranberries, sour cherries, and a wonderfully herbal note. The acidity in the wine will help to cut through the butter and creaminess of the fluffy potatoes, while the body of the wine will help to bring together the lightness of the turkey breast.

For your main dish, we recommend our Pinot Grigio for your turkey or our Petit Sirah for your ham or beef dishes. Our Pinot Grigio adds the perfect contrast of zesty acid to your savory turkey meat while revealing a bit of honey and spice. It presents notes of pear and green apple to add the perfect touch of fruitiness to your meaty dish. For you ham or beef dishes, we recommend our Petit Sirah, revealing deep plum and blackberry jam flavors. The Petit Sirah is medium to full bodied, standing up against your most robust beefier dishes. Our Petit Sirah is wine club only and a great reason to join the club!

When your highly anticipated meal has come to a close, it is time to bring out a classic pumpkin pie. The Burklee Hill Vineyards 2018 Olivia is a wonderful compliment to the taste of pumpkin pie spice. This off dry wine has a pleasing nose of bruised yellow apples, fresh honey, and overripe pineapple. Although not a dessert wine, it has enough sweetness and acidity to cleanse the palate from the smooth and rich pumpkin pie, while embracing the autumnal spices and baked crust. The 2017 Olivia is a blend of Chenin Blanc and Riesling from our very own vineyards near Levelland. It is a beautiful late harvest style wine with a honeyed hue.

Cheers and raise a toast to the holidays!
